Des Moines Breakerz

Des Moines Breakerz is a breakdancing group, now business that features a diverse group of students from across the Des Moines area that have traveled across the midwest to compete. The first year we performed at CelebrAsian was just days after performing at The White House for the Turnaround Arts Talent Show hosted by former FLOTUS Michelle Obama. They have several students compete at Breaking For Gold, a qualifier for Team USA to be represented at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. This will be the 6th time we've performed at CelebrAsian in 7 years.

S.A.F.E.

SAFE met for the first time last July after their parents encouraged and convinced them to get involved with the cultural community. Their parents realized their musical talent and passion and thought it appropriate to form a band with the focus on cultural songs. Their first practice was in July and by the first week of Sept, the band debuted at Tai Village Festival. And...the rest is history!!! Since then, they were invited to participate in the celebration of the late Governor Robert Ray, they performed in a wedding, and they have several gigs lined up for the rest of this year. Band members consist of Sully, Ashton, Fisher, and Matthew.

Burai Productions is a Japanese entertainment group specializing in Japanese sword fighting based in California. Since 2016, they have been providing interactive samurai shows at various events, including the Nisei Obon Festival, Nisei Week Fashion Show, LANSCA 60th Anniversary Special Event, Anaheim Japan Fair, Samurai Show at Ronin Expo at Terasaki Budokan, Samurai Night at Japanese Friendship Garden of Phoenix, Samurai workshop at the University of Alaska Anchorage, and many more. They offer an opportunity to learn about Japanese cultural traditions and to experience basic samurai movements, sword handling, and the manner of speaking, among other things.

Iowa Parai Kuzhu

Parai means “To speak or to communicate”. It is also one of the earliest percussion instruments dating back to prehistoric times and predominantly used in southern India in the state of Tamil Nadu. The Parai Attam dance form is the local dance that Tamil culture enjoys where people beat the drum and dance to its rhythms. Parai music permeates Indian social life from celebrating births to the final funereal journey.

Singer/songwriter born and raised in Des Moines IA. Also serves as a K-5 vocal music teacher, where he works to guide and inspire future generations. He believes that arts education of every kind is vital to a well rounded education. His favored instrument is the ukulele, specifically the Hawaiian KoAloha brand, the premiere ukulele manufacturer in the world who sponsor him by providing him with their first class instruments. Recently signed to Indie label Golden Bear Records, he is tireless in his pursuit of creating a long lasting and sustainable music career both domestically and internationally.
