Organization: Indo-American Assocation of Iowa
Mission: The Indo-American Association of Iowa (IAAI) is a non-profit organization, which was formed by a small group of Indian-Americans in 1973. IAAI is one of the largest association of Indian community within Des Moines metro area and Iowa. The group’s goals is to promote India, its heritage and host community events to introduce Asian Indian American culture to fellow Iowans.
History: Iowa’s Indian-American population has grown considerably since a handful of Indian-American families were identified in Des Moines in 1973. In 2018, IAAI received proclamation from the State of Iowa Governor declaring that August 15th of each year as India Day in honor of Indian Independence Day. At that time of the proclamation there were 16,738 Iowans of Indian origin. Today, it is estimated that there are more than 25,000 Iowans of Indian origin are living in Iowa. An integral part of Iowa’s communities, Iowans of Indian origin are making contributions in the fields of information technology, medical science, finance, agriculture and service sectors.
